Best Employers Czech Republic 2009

On April 16, the Czech office of Hewitt Associates, the largest global HR consulting and outsourcing firm, announced the winners of the sixth year of its annual study Best Employers. 59 companies applied for participation in the study and 53 companies fulfilled all criteria for being included into the final ranking. Altogether, 12 778 employees took part in the employee engagement survey, which represents a total population of more than 28 000 employees.

This year the list of Best Employers is divided into two categories – Small and medium scale companies and Large scale companies. The winner of the ranking in the Category Large Company is Microsoft. The TOP 5 Best Employers in the Czech Republic 2009 in this category are the following companies:

This year again, there are large, small, Czech and multinational companies among the Best Employers. It proves that the company name, size or company PR doesn’t make any difference for final ranking.

 What makes difference in ranking?

Employees of the TOP15 companies show very high engagement and satisfaction with their employment. This year’s average engagement rate among the Best employers is 69%, which is 17% higher than the Czech average. Best companies also demonstrate a very high effectiveness of their HR policies, which are aligned with the business goals of the company and are well accepted by the employees.

Employers are analyzed based on three aspects – feedback from their employees, company HR policies and view of the top management. The key statistics influencing the final ranking of each company is the engagement of its employees. The engagement in Hewitt surveys is defined as the emotional and intellectual involvement of the employee to the company activities. It is defined by three models of behavior:

  • employees have an intense desire to be a member of the organization;
  • employees consistently speak positively about the organization to coworkers, potential employees, and customers;
  • employees exert extra effort and engage in work that contributes to business success of the company.
